Healing through Culture

Healing Through Culture is a culturally focused trauma-based program for First Nations male inmates in the John Morony Correctional Centre. The goal being that they are introduced through a therapeutic environment to ways of identifying their trauma, its resulting behavioural responses, and the impact those behaviours have on themselves, their family, and the community. Through this process, we hope to support the men to start the healing process, which will enable them to take responsibility for their lives, leading to more positive life choices and a reduction in recidivism.

The program is based around the "Healing the Warrior" Aboriginal Men’s program delivered by Ivan Clarke of Wiimpatja Training, Skills Development & Consultancy, and the "Gamarada 'Healing Circle' Life Training Program" delivered by Ken Zulumovski of Gamarada Universal Indigenous Resources.

It will include a First Nations led evaluation by Origin Australian. The program is a 2-year trial funded by the Paul Ramsay Foundation.
